Country Joe & The Fish’s “Electric Music For The Mind And Body” was the first genuine psychedelic long player to emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area rock scene. This album was the first where the sound in the grooves matched the new frontier philosophies of the 1960s generation.
Berkeley-based Country Joe McDonald’s itinerant band of ex-folkies and rock neophytes forged an unsurpassed blend of satirical humour and socio-political insight with some of the most poignant, beautiful sounds. Their April 1967 album debut “Electric Music” is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential records of its day.
どこかのサイトで、どこかの海外サイトで投票されたナンバーワンなサイケバンドとしてカントリー・ジョー＆ザ・フィッシュだったかこのアルバムだかが選ばれて、そういうもんなのかと思って。
カントリー・ジョー・マクドナルドといえばウッドストックでのアレが有名らしいですけど、サイケを聴く身としては、案外そういうのはどうでもよくて、実際問題レコード（CD）でどうなのかっていうのがとても大事なのであります。
このバンドが総体的にサイケバンドだと言うのは危なっかしい気がします。 別のアルバムではこれがほんとに同じバンドなのけ？ってくらいに違和感がありまくりですし、底に流れるのがそもそもに違うんじゃないかって思うんですよね。
だもんで、そんなサイケの頂点的な評価をされるのは意外というか心外というか。
ただ、このブルース・ロックを基点として展開されるアルバムは、いい。 アレンジが笑っちゃうほどサイケであり、Loveに通じる曲の良さも評価されるところです。
最近思うに、サイケっていうのは音楽のジャンルじゃなくて、アレンジの一種なんじゃないかって。
