3 年前に Scott Walker が亡くなったとき、まったく響かなかった。 ラジオで追悼特集が組まれたときも基本的には Walker Brothers マンセーというか中庸な彼の姿が本来のものであり、休業明けのこの Climate of Hunter なんかは前衛呼ばわりするくらいの勢いであって、そりゃ響くわけがないっていう話で。
とはいえ逆を返してみれば、そもそも私のような嗜好がおかしなわけで、ふつうだったら Walker Brothers が好きになるだろうし Scott Walker のソロ作にしたって 1 枚目 2 枚目まではスキスキスーでもって 3 枚目くらいから（ジャケットとあいまって）「あれ？」っていうことになるのであろうし、そんなこんなでここいらあたりが私の付け入る余地なんだと考えればいいのであり。
実際に 3 枚目を最初に聴いて「お？」となったクチの私としては、そこから 1974 年の休業までのほうが好きだったり（Any Day Now とか）、そこから 10 年経っての復活作である本作はポピュラリティを獲得できなかっただろうけれども、ボウイやシルヴィアンにさぞかし影響を与えたであろう・・・っていうかそのまんまじゃねぇか！くらいの突出っぷりが音楽的には非常に重要なんじゃないかって思うんですよね。 耽美なんだよね。
