The CD features all the bands best known tracks from their first single ‘Like An Angel’ and subsequent 7′ classics ‘Into the Heart of Love’, ‘Other Side of You’, ‘My Biggest Thrill’, ‘Beautiful Shame’, ‘Out of Hand’, ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Fall Down’. The CD booklet features a complete discography incorporating all the original front cover sleeves and a written introduction by the band of each of the songs on the album and from where the tracks were sourced. 以前 Lemon Drops のことをエントリーしたときに、Lemon Drops といえば Mighty ~ だよねって書きました。もう書いてて聴きたくて聴きたくて仕方がなかったもんでしたが、なんだかんだでそのままになってました
Mighty Lemon Drops というと林みたいな公園みたいなところで撮影された写真がジャケットの World Without End（ 1988 年リリース）か、リッケン弾いてるバンド写真かっていうビジュアル的な印象で、ガレージやサイケを消化したポスト・パンクっていう音楽面での印象が今や薄まってしまい、あれはいつ頃なのかまるで Morrissey みたいな歌い方じゃないか？っていう多少歪んだ印象が底にこずんでます。 「こずむ」って方言なの？漢字ないの？
改めて聴き直すとやっぱり初期のほうがいい気がします。 そもそも「なんでもかんでも初期が好き」っていう趣向の私でもありますが、やっぱりガレージ感が残った方がいい・・・けどその後もいいけど・・・ので、その点ではベストもいいですけど、デビュー前の初期音源集 Uptight: The Early Recordings 1985/1986 も捨てがたい。
初期好きの私が言いたいことを言い終えたんで残りはもう絞りカスなのかっていう話になりそうですが、それなりに売れたのはビジュアルもちょっとイギリスっぽい暗さでいいっていうのもそうですが、アルバムを経ることによってパワーポップっぽくなっていくんですよね。 だから今聴いてもそんなに色褪せない。 ちょっと感傷的に懐古ワールドが展開しちゃう恐れはあるものの、寝る時の BGM にちょうどよいんですよね。
当時の、二十歳そこそこの私に言ってやりたいよ。 印象っていうのはこんなにも変わるのだと。
