Digitally re-mastered edition of this album from the Soul singer. TRANSITION was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia in 1974 and features arrangements by Norman Harris, Richard Rome and Bobby Eli. Creatively, it has been considered her strongest and funkiest of her albums. The album has been a collector’s item for many years and we are proud to be able to present it for the first time on CD re-mastered from the original masters, as part of our classic albums series. TRANSITION is a concept album reflecting problems in society at the time with thought provoking songs and a cover illustrating the issues graphically. The album was produced by her manager and husband, Jimmy Bishop.
このレビューを読むまで知らなかったのですが、Jimmy Bishop は Barbara Mason の旦那さんだった（2021 年逝去）んですね。 このあたりの曲を聴いてて「いいなぁ・・・」って思ってクレジット見ると J. Bishop って書いてあって、どういう人なんだろうって気にはしていたんです。
それはさておき Transition は 6 枚目のアルバムで 1974 年に Buddha からリリースされたアルバム。 この後 Buddha からはもう一枚アルバムをリリースして（未聴）、1977 年には Curtom から Bunny Sigler とのデュオアルバムを出します（これいいアルバム）。 もともとデビューが早かった（1965 年）ので、1974 年の 6th ともなると成熟しきっちゃてる感もありまして、内容のシビアさが日本人の私にはぴんとこないところではありますけれども、こと外国語で歌ってるフィリーソウルっていう大雑把すぎる括りで聴いています。 本人の歌もいいんですが、バックのコーラスや演奏がなによりいいんですよね。
